Well, I did it

I finally went ahead and got my own domain. I have been thinking about it for quite sometime. The domain I wanted was rbenson.com, but today when I was in my ‘oh what the hell’ mood, that domain is now taken. Now on top of that, a few people have been looking at it. Each and every time it said it was available.

I started thinking about it. Now it says it’s taken, and has been since 2001-2002. I am wondering why I was I given false information back then. Anyhow, I was able to snag the rbenson.info domain. It is being populated right now, so it should be up shortly.

Google Code Search

I came across a new Labs project that was released Thursday. It is Google Code Search to be honest I think it is missing a big big fundamental component that would be useful to people… What is that? A reference to the element which is being searched for.

What do I mean? Well I just typed in lang:SQL Select, that says limit results to SQL and look for Select. Well, anybody that knows SQL, knows that it is SELECT is one of the two most important keywords in SQL. But say I didn’t know…Wouldn’t it be good if the top link was some sort of documentation on it? Yeah SELECT is a pretty basic keyword, but there are harder built in functions of languages…wouldn’t it be more helpful to have the documentation right there with your examples? Yeah I could open up a new tab or window and do a search for that item and get documentation. Why not kill two birds with one stone?

GoogleTube

I just read this article that discusses various companies looking to buy YouTube for $1.6 billion. I find this nearly sickning even though I do enjoy both YouTube and Google. Hell, the article says that Yahoo! is looking to buy Facebook for about a billion. Good god.

Leaving coComment

Well after partially screwing up a relationship or fully screwing it up, I decided to take a break from coComment for sometime. This isn’t due to the fact that I am no longer in the top position. It is due to what I just said, and I have been somewhat mad at myself for doing this. It is just stupid comments for God sake. I handled my comments that I left before February 5th or 6th moderately well, so I can do this on my own again. Surely on blogs that are not mine, I may not reply as quickly or at all. But seeing that a majority of the comments that I have been making or replying to is on my own blog, I don’t see me losing too much here.

Maybe I will come back in a few weeks or months, but not likely at this moment. The ride was exciting the first few weeks, but now it is gone. I am trying to change my life around, and such. Tuesday evening, I even decided to go to the library and study for a few hours, well five to be exact. Something I haven’t done in years, maybe since my first or second year here. Granted that I didn’t get home until one in the morning, it felt great, cannot explain why exactly.

SeaMonkey

Just thought I would do this quick update. While browsing I found a Mozilla project called SeaMonkey. It is actually just a renaming of the “Mozilla Application Suite” after a second read through.

The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to deliver production-quality releases of code derived from the application formerly known as “Mozilla Application Suite”. Whereas the main focus of the Mozilla Foundation is on Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird, our group of dedicated volunteers works to ensure that you can have “everything but the kitchen sink” — and have it stable enough for corporate use.

I was hoping that they would offer more information an screenshots.

Is MySpace Bad?

After the Internet bubble burst, he even built a site that let people download computer cursors in the form of waving flags; the trick was that they also downloaded software that would monitor their Internet movements and show them pop-up ads.

I read this news article yestereday, which the above quote is from. The guy, Chris DeWolfe, that owns the domain of MySpace, used to be a not-so-nice guy on this Information Super Highway we have here. Just as that quote says, DeWolfe used to make pop-up ads that track movements online. I have seen the same sort of banner on MySpace that is ‘Click here to get this cursor.’ Is this the same sort of thing as before?

To me, it would be an ample oppurtunity to get some ad-ware into people’s systems. Why? Because I am guessing that a majority of MySpace users are female teens. Seeing as my sister, and other females my age and younger, like things because they are ‘pretty.’ This beautifying factor could almost be undoubtably translated to the computer. I bet if you would as my sister if she would like that boring arrow cursor changed into a dancing ballerenia, or a ballet shoe, she would say yes. Ok, maybe not today, but a few years ago.
